Wulipo Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The type section is located at Wulipo of the Xikou area 25 km to the southeast of the Zhenan County Town, Shaanxi Province. It was named by the Xi’an Institute of Geology and Mineral Resources in 1965.
Lithology and Thickness
Limestone. Composed chiefly of light-grey and grey-white thick-bedded massive limestones, with its basal part consisting of light-grey thick-bedded massive limestone, intercalated with a small amount of grey-black clastic limestone. Thickness is 175 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Conformable contact with the black and grey-black limestones, intercalated with a small amount of grey-white dense limestone at the top of the underlying Yazi Fm.
Upper contact
Conformable contact with the black shale and silty shale at the base of the overlying Shuixiakou Fm
Regional extent
Distributed in the Xikou area to the southeast of the Zhenan County Town, and the Yundoutan area, Shaanxi Province, as well as in the Yunxi area of Hubei Province.

Fossils
In the Xikou area the Fusulinid fossils are subdivided into the lower Cancellina zone and the upper Pseudodoliolina zone, whose main members are Praesumatrina, Neoschwagerina, Chusenella and Pseudodoliolina; among the Brachiopods there occur the Tyloplecta nankingensis, Urushtenia zhenanensis, etc.; and of the Corals there are found the Ipciphyllum, Wentzeeella.

Depositional setting
It is interpreted as a shallow-sea carbonate-platform.
